Offsetters Creates Baltimore Grand Prix's Carbon Strategy to better manage their carbon footprint
September 1, 2011, Vancouver, Canada — Offsetters, a carbon management industry leader, has partnered with the inaugural 2011 Baltimore Grand Prix, to map out its carbon management strategy with a goal of becoming a carbon neutral sporting event with zero net waste by 2015.
The Baltimore Grand Prix will be a three day racing event in downtown Baltimore, September 2 -4, 2011. Expected to attract thousands of spectators for the weekend event which will feature world-class motorsports competition with several racing series along with a wide variety of entertainment and activity, event organizers knew early on that they wanted to support the values behind becoming a Green Prix, and better manage their carbon emissions.
“We’re excited to work with the Baltimore Grand Prix, and kudos to the organizers who truly want to understand their climate impact,” said Kari Grist, senior vice president marketing and client engagement for Offsetters. “We’re also looking forward to educating, engaging and inspiring the racing audience to reduce their impact on the environment.”
Drawing from its experience helping to understand, reduce and offset the carbon footprint for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games as well as other large sporting events like the Canadian Football League Grey Cup, Vancouver, Canada based Offsetters has created a five-year climate strategy and an event carbon footprint with plans for a post-event reconciliation along with the development of recommendations for reduced carbon activities for the Baltimore Grand Prix.
The Baltimore Grand Prix, part of the 2011 IZOD IndyCar Series and the 2011 American Le Mans Series schedules, encompasses a 3.2-km (two-mile) temporary street circuit that travels through the heart of Baltimore’s downtown district, past the Inner Harbor and around Camden Yards. Combining world-class racing and festivities, the weekend welcomes race-fans of all ages.
