Eclipse Awards wins an award of their own - BC's Best Employer from Small Business BC

We’d like to congratulate our friends at Eclipse Awards who were recently recognized as BC’s Best Employer in front of a packed house at the 9th Annual Successful You Awards hosted by Small Business BC.

With over 50,000 businesses registered in BC, the competition was stiff, however after a 4-month elimination process and three rounds of judging, Eclipse Awards emerged as the winner for their outstanding commitment to their employees and community.

Eclipse Awards is an experienced awards manufacturer and boutique recognition firm located in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.  Eclipse makes hand-crafted recognition awards made from reclaimed materials to help organizations celebrate leadership and excellence in sustainability.  The company has 14 years of experience dealing with some of the world’s largest organizations including NASA, the United Nations and the US Marine Corps.

Sustainability is a core value at Eclipse and in 2008 the company offset its carbon footprint to become the world’s first carbon neutral recognition company. Some of their other sustainability commitments that helped them win the Best Employer Award include: providing subsidized transit passes to staff as well as per kilometer cash incentives for those that choose to walk or bike to work; building an eco-friendly workplace that features natural light and a 2000 square foot green roof with gardening plots; an accident free safety record over 14 years; and paying Living Wages to staff.

Being a carbon neutral employer is important to company founder and president Toby Barazzuol. “It’s an extension of our commitment to creating a healthy and inspiring workplace and an example of holding ourselves to higher standards”, Barazzuol says. Eclipse offers a Brown Bag Award program that rewards staff for cooking and eating lunch at work. It’s an example of using recognition to encourage better health and limit driving while also reducing the company’s environmental footprint.

Eclipse Awards has come a long way in winning this award and they continue to explore ways to create more social and environmental value while also contributing to their community.  In fact, Barazzuol says, “our success has been because of our commitment to our staff and community and the environment, not in spite of it. That is the lesson that we hope to share with other small businesses”.
