Aggregate Wind Power in India
Carbon offset funds will enable the installation of wind turbines across India. Aggregated, these projects contribute clean, renewable energy to power grids that are predominately fueled by fossil fuel based sources of energy.
HOW IT WORKS
The wind turbines were installed to harness wind power that will be sold to the State Electricity Boards to use in their respective grids. The projects will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by using a renewable resource, wind energy, to generate power which otherwise would have been generated using non-renewable carbon-intensive fuels.
CARBON OFFSETS MADE IT HAPPEN
Without funds from carbon offsets, the financial return on wind-farms would not be feasible. With offset funding, the return was such that a significant number of turbines could be installed in across the country.
OTHER BENEFITS OF THE INSTALLATION
Beyond the direct climate benefits, the projects promote sustainable development across India, generate employment opportunities for the people (both during construction and operation phases), and improve economic activities by increasing electricity generation and availability of power.
Clean sources of energy also reduce NOx, SOx and particulates, contributing to the health of the regions’ residents.
